During college, I worked as a printer so I am well acquainted with print requirements and guidelines. After college, I became a graphic designer with a focus on food and beverage packaging. I designed labels for brands such as Polar, Adirondack, Food Lion, Publix, Jolt, and Dr. Brown’s. I also taught graphic design as an adjunct professor at Sage Junior College of Albany, where I attained some of the highest student approval ratings. During that time period, the graphic design industry was transitioning from analog to digital so I have a complete understanding of the evolution of digital art.
In 1996, I became Art Director for Philosophy skincare and cosmetics. I designed packaging, collateral, retail posture, website, and advertising to help that brand reach national recognition and explosive popularity. After moving to Nashville, where my wife attended Vanderbilt Law School, I became Art Director for KRB Music. I designed hundreds of CD and DVD covers, and I created a catalog for the entire product line which generated $500,000 in sales at one trade show.
After moving to Austin, I became Art Director for Sportexe, an artificial turf company. Within a year, I advanced to the position of Director of Marketing, where I oversaw a team of five creatives. Sportexe became so successful that Shaw Floors acquired the company during my fourth year of employment. My team and I then helped launch a new turf company: UBU Sports/Turfscape, which served the athletic market and the landscaping market. UBU Sports became an NFL favorite, and we created a franchise program for Turfscape.
After Act Global acquired UBU Sports/Turfscape in 2017, I became Director of Marketing for Sprinturf/Progreen, another sports/landscape turf company. I was able to take the experience I had gained in my two previous positions and successfully rebranded that old, but trusted company. During COVID, I shifted to working for Sprinturf/Progreen on a contract basis.
